Free Book Fair for Children Affected by
Hurricane Katrina

With Special Thanks to the Overwhelming Generosity of the
"Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators"

OceanSprings-MS.Com was able to host a Free Book Fair for the children affected by Hurricane Katrina, on Saturday & Sunday Nov. 5th & 6th, during the Peter Anderson Festival.

Having only rained once since Hurricane Katrina, we as well as the city of Ocean Springs felt confident that our Peter Anderson Festival would go on without a hitch.

Originally my wife (and partner in OceanSprings-MS)  had set out to hold the free book fair only on Saturday.  But then came the rain, which only managed to dampen the streets and not our spirits.  After all, Saturday's weather was a far cry from what blew in on August 29th.  Due to the rain and seeing the abundance of books still to give away to the children of Ocean Springs, my wife and I decided "why not another day"  So we covered  the books up with one of those CNN famous "Mississippi Roofs" (a Blue Tarp) and camped out in our van overnight, so that we would be all set up and ready to give away books again on Sunday!

After two days of trying to convince parent's that the books where donated by the good people of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators in California, and that they were free to everyone,  we are happy to say that we managed to place a book in the hands of over 900 children!

Close to 1,000 children showed up and was able to pick out
One New Children's Book to keep for their own, absolutely free!
